The Small Ytong Nest – Type A is a compact yet more spacious formicarium designed for small to growing ant colonies. It offers the same natural moisture regulation as the founding Ytong nests, with additional space to support colony growth.

This nest features three straight-shaped chambers carved into a Ytong block, creating a simple and efficient layout for brood development and movement. The porous Ytong material provides a stable and humid microclimate suitable for a wide range of species.

Moisture is added through the side-mounted hydration chimney, allowing controlled hydration without disturbing the colony. An escape-proof mesh is embedded into the frame, while a clear acrylic cover secured with screws provides visibility and protection. A red shield is included to reduce light exposure and support natural ant behavior.

This nest is designed to be used in an upright, vertical position only.

Capacity guidelines
Suitable for colonies of approximately 50 to 200 workers.
